ABSTRACT
Many articles have reported that speech perception was improved when cochlear implants and hearing aids were used bilaterally. There are many reasons why individuals with cochlear implants might benefit from continued hearing aid use in their nonimplanted ear. The purpose of this article was to review the current information of bimodal fitting of a cochlear implant and a hearing aid in the opposite ear. The rationale, effects in auditory perception, candidacy criteria and fitting methods of bimodal fitting are summarized.
Key Words: Bimodal fitting·Cochlear implant·Hearing aid.
