ABSTRACT
Most cochlear implant studies have focused on improvement of speech perception associated with implantation. We surveyed on parents of implanted children using a questionnaire to determine how they use their devices in everyday situation and to what degree they are satisfied with them. This preliminary questionnaire was completed by the parents of 19 implanted children. The outcome showed the parent’s level of satisfaction with respect to 1) medical services provided with cochlear implantation, 2) device usage and handling, 3) device performance in terms of communication 4) overall satisfaction. The results indicated that parents had a high degree of satisfaction achieved in all categories. There are many factors influencing satisfaction of cochlear implantees and their families. In order to increase this level of satisfaction after implantation, related parties should consider all aspects of cochler implant including MAPping, auditory training, speech therapy, language development, and family support.
