The Test-retest Reliability of Korean Standard Language Lists for Schoolchildren in Speech Audiometry

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to establish the test-retest reliability of language lists for schoolchildren used in speech audiometry including Korean standard bisyllabic word list for schoolchildren (KS-BWL-S), Korean standard monosyllabic word list for schoolchildren (KS-MWL-S) and Korean standard sentence list for schoolchildren (KS-SL-S). Specifically, correlation coefficient, mean, standard deviation (SD), confidence interval (CI) and prediction interval (PI) were calculated for test-retest reliability. Subjects consisted of 31 schoolchildren with normal hearing sensitivity. All lists of KS-BWL-S, KS-MWL-S and KS-SL-S were presented to each subject using CD. Retests were performed in about 2 weeks for most subjects. The results showed fair levels of test-retest reliability for KS-BWL-S, KS-MWL-S and KS-SL-S in speech reception threshold (SRT), word recognition score (WRS) and sentence recognition score (SRS). These results were based on : (1) fair levels of correlation coefficients between test and retest results, (2) insignificant difference between test and retest results, and (3) narrow CIs. However, short version of WRS showed relatively low reliability. Results also demonstrated 95% PI for each score of WRS and SRS. These results can be usefully applied for evaluating individual difference in speech audiometry in various clinical situations.
