ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between korean consonant perception test (KCPT) results and hearing thresholds for hearing-impaired adults. Thirty sensorineural hearing loss adults with the age ranging from 23 to 89 (mean age : 59.13±17.65 years) served as subjects. They all went through both the pure tone audiometry and KCPT evaluation process. Integrating results of correlational analysis, the most related frequencies for perceiving initial consonants were 2,000 and 4,000 Hz, the most related frequencies for perceiving final consonants were 500, 1,000, and 2,000 Hz, and the most related frequencies for perceiving vowels were 250 and 500 Hz. The initial consonants of /ㄸ/, /ㅁ/, /ㅇ/ were the most related with 250 Hz, /ㅂ/, /ㅈ/, /ㅉ/ with 1,000 Hz , /ㄱ/, /ㄴ/, /ㄷ/, /ㅎ/ with 2,000 Hz, /ㅆ/, /ㅋ/ with 4,000 Hz, and /ㄲ/, /ㅃ/, /ㅅ/, /ㅊ/, /ㅌ/, /ㅍ/ with 8,000Hz. The vowels of /ㅐ/, /ㅑ/, /ㅓ/, /ㅔ/, /ㅕ/, /ㅘ/, /ㅛ/, /ㅜ/, /ㅣ/ were the most related with 250 Hz, /ㅚ/ with 500 Hz, /ㅏ/, /ㅗ/ with 1,000 Hz, /ㅡ/ with 2,000 Hz and /ㅟ/, /ㅠ/ with 8,000 Hz. The final consonants /ㅁ/ were the most related with 250 Hz, /ㅇ/ with 500 Hz , /ㄱ/,/ㄴ/,/ㄹ/,/ㅂ/ with 2,000 Hz and /ㄷ/ with 4,000 Hz. These data showed the clinical possibility for analyzing the consonant perceiving abilities of the hearing impaired according to their pure tone thresholds and for applying KCPT in the bottom-up rehabilitation process.
